The communism stuff is very silly to say the least, and it's not what you want to watch for an accurate retelling of the licensing scuffle over Tetris, but apart from that it's a very fun, engaging and very well made in many aspects (nice plot, good direction, really good acting)

they basically took the outline of what transpired with the business agreements and miscommunication and make a Hollywood movie out of it. But I like the sprinkles of accuracy, most notably the technical aspects with the computers they use, the game boy devkits, and some details like Henk Rogers convincing Nintendo to bundle the Game Boy with Tetris instead of Super Mario Land and stuff like that

I think the movie's depiction of the USSR is pretty interesting and silly because it's doing both a very dated American caricature of it but also making characters say stuff like "well it wasn't supposed to turn out to be limiting freedom this much" that is a more contemporary view in the west

Also I like Taron Egerton but Henk Rogers IRL really does look Asian and not white and the "I have a little bit of Indonesian blood in the mix" to justify it is hard to take seriously. It's straight-up whitewashing, there isn't really a way around it 🤷

And like I guess the real life Henk Rogers didn't have an issue with it since he's credited as an executive producer on the movie but whitewashing is never about only one person and that doesn't make it okay

And I'm pretty sure the actor who played Robert Maxwell wore a fatsuit :/

So based on my enjoyment of the movie I would give it 3.5 stars and a thumbs up, but these issues are difficult to ignore
