Toutes des Femmes, a French feminist association started a campaign petitioning to amend the French law such that trans folks can change the sex on their civil status certificate/vital documents without having to argue with a judge1.
The website for the campaigne is here
The petition itself is here -> https://www.change.org/p/personnes-trans-pour-le-changement-de-sexe-%C3%A0-l-%C3%A9tat-civil-libre-et-gratuit EDIT: AFAICT you don't need to live in France to sign it. I have my US address on change.org and it went through just fine.
(I'm sorry it's all in French so you'll have to Google translate)

Pardon me for the clunky legalese here, i don't have a good grasp on how the concept of "état civil" translates in English lol
