So! It's about time I started this! This is a fresh experience for me, so it's not going to necessarily be the most informative playthrough since I'll be learning as I go, but! Since I livetweet on twitter a lot with this kind of thing and people seem to like it, I'm sure this'll go over smoothly! I have played Xenogears also and well, it seems even in just the introduction cutscene, there is some immediate things I can comment on.
Is that good?
So immediately at the start of this, we have what appears to be an object reminiscent of the Zohar from Xenogears being unearthed, firing a beam of light into the sky, and causing rain. Whether or not this is good? No clue, my assumption would be this is a bad thing. Big golden monoliths shooting rays into the sky just feels inherently scary to me. The fate of what appears to be a normal 20th/21st century earth is unknown to me though as we IMMEDIATELY cut to space:
Onboard a space station, we see a bunch of nerds typing away at future computers, and Shion Uzuki (hey I know that name!) is connecting to a project KOS-MOS (hey I know that one too!) through some kind of VR Machine. Random shots of the Zohar floating through space are interspersed throughout, as a ship deploys adorable little space pods to pick it up.
I love these little guys.
As a person in a space suit approaches the Zohar, Mitsuda's music just shifts into playing parts of Premonition from Xenogears, and as that ominous bit plays, the person touching the Zohar disappears. Honestly? I had no clue how many ties to Xenogears would be in here necessarily. After all, we've jumped ship from Square to Namco. But no, definitely some Xenogears lineage happening here.
We shoot back to the nerds at the lab. Not really much to say there, lots of technobabble relating to, I presume the activation of KOS-MOS. We shoot back again to the Zohar, being contained in an energy cage by the adorable little guys again.
Look at them go... I love them so much...
With the Zohar taken onboard a ship, and a final cut back to the nerds, Shion enters VR, and meets KOS-MOS.

We learn KOS-MOS is an 'anti-Gnosis' weapon, she doesn't feel emotions, and is relatively confused by Shion, who is worried about the implications of when they'd have to truly awaken KOS-MOS, which, I assume would be a time in when battle would be happening. After this? We cut to gameplay and tutorial!
BUT that's the end of this first post! Mostly all commentary on the cutscenes, I just wanted to get a feel for this. Balancing the amount of images in a game like this with commentary is gonna be interesting. We'll see if I might try to bite off something smaller first, hence this prototypical part 0 of this LP! I'm excited to dig into the game itself soon.
Any comments, suggestions, anything y'all can think of, please do so! I'm not used to this long form version of this and am both excited AND nervous.
