Barely leaving the house for a few weeks in a row has caused me to enter what solo dev scientists call "the Hermit Zone", so I decided to go for a long walk around Hampstead Heath to restore my sanity.

The heath is a big block of trees and ponds in wealthy north London. Parts of it feel like a park, other parts feel like woodland. It's big enough to get lost in (and tourists often do), but it's manicured enough that you're never really out of human civilisation.

It's also where the central arc of Small Saga takes place.

Somewhere around the middle of the heath, you can find two trees, about fifty meters apart. One I think is an old oak, just a massive, sturdy trunk of wood that's thriving upwards. The other is a twisted beech that has somehow grown with an enormous cavity, big enough for people to climb inside it. Damaged and hollow, but still alive.

I just think they're neat.

I also met some grey squirrels, but they wouldn't give me the time of day.
