That is the fundamental joy of Star Trek, honestly. Sometimes you have tense standoffs with the current big scary alien empire. Sometimes you have emotional explorations of a character's motivations. Sometimes you have a disease that makes everyone act with zero inhibition and the ship devolves into people fencing on the bridge and enjoying "athletic companionship" just off screen. Sometimes you need to negotiate between some miners and a scared alien mom.
You never know what the crew will be facing this week, and that's exciting.
