electronics as a hobby just means that sometimes you build a cable that looks like this and then you detest it fiercely but also cannot put it away anywhere or disassemble it unless you do 50 times more work

okay, so one half of this is a usb-to-serial adapter, and the other half is...a PS/2 connector jerry-rigged to a serial cable with a series of alligator clips and oscilloscope hook tips?

8-pin mac-style serial rather than ps/2, but yes
