I feel like the AR/VR tech missed their opportunity by not leaning into the fact that it looks super dorky and making the heads up display eyepiece a thing. The display should look like something out of Star Trek, or out of an 80's movie about future computer hackers. You already look like a big old dork when you're wearing smart glasses or a VR headset, you might as well be living out your cyberpunk future.

(Coincidentally I was bombarded with ads about the Apple Vision while looking for this screenshot. Hmm...)

google tried exactly that back in the 2010s

not only was Google Glass a commercial failure, but a bunch of people got beaten up for wearing it in public. turns out a thing like that is a swirlie magnet
