they've been doing this since 2010, it's because they don't like paying maintenance costs from people using them in the way they used the public space that was there before malls were all that's left.

it's so funny too, because foot traffic is the only way malls make sense monetarily, otherwise it's just 4 big box stores that smell like pretzels and antiseptic

i bet they get artificial pretzel fragrance. the mall can't work without the mkultra triggers. ESPECIALLY the four dollar teriyaki place that has maintained a stable price for nearly three decades.

More seriously, I point to the historical records The Blues Brothers and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, both of which had mall scenes that resonated with audiences. But sure, TikTok.
