a thought that just came to me about Cohost and other, trendier sites (bsky/threads/masto/what have you): I'm realizing I don't want to be where the whole world is. I can't know the whole world. I can't talk to the whole world.
in my actual life, I'm content to take what comes and make those people my circle. one of my good friends in Seattle is someone who I met when she was a cashier at Target; she commented on my Jay & Miles pin and several years later we were swapping comics and movie recommendations. I went to her store to be with her on the night of the 2016 election. she helped me move apartments. almost all the others are either people I know from work--my best, best friends are the two people who were sitting next to me on the day I started--or people I met through them.
Cohost is never going to have everybody here, but that's OK, because it has a lot of good people, more than I could ever get to know or make friends with. these are the people I have ended up sitting next to. hi.
