I really like PSO1, Elder Scrolls, weird old games, prog music, mac and cheese, and other things but I'm really bad at remembering stuff when I want to make a list
I wish I could be isekai'd into a world that sucked slightly less

with dragon's dogma 2 around the corner, I decided to finally play the first one.

I've made attempts to enjoy dragon's dogma before and have never gotten further than the immediate aftermath of the hydra fight very early on. the first time, it's because I was playing dark arisen and the game basically leads you to the post game content immediately after that and I was like "god damn this game is fucking hard" and the second time because I just decided to take a break and didn't boot it up again.

I'm doing my best to stick with it this time because I've got way too many friends who are incredibly into this game and I need to find out why. I've gotten to Gran solum or whatever it's called, decked myself out with a nice suit of armor, and started exploring the surrounding area.

Thoughts so far are mixed. I'm not a huge fan of how often the pawns repeat the same phrases over and over, but disabling their voices makes the world feel weirdly quiet. I like the combat but it feels a little too hard, but I also hadn't upgraded any of my equipment until this big city, so I'm sure that's the main issue there. I really enjoy the walkin' around and the look of everything. as long as it's not overly difficult I feel like it'll be pretty easy to stick to. I really need a big fantasy world to wander around in right now.

I'll keep y'all posted. I'm playing on switch which means tv gaming AND bedtime gaming, so you'll definitely be seeing more.

in reply to @SlushieCat's post:

it took me like 4 attempts to really “get it” but by the time i had the entire pawn system was basically barren and empty. took a lot of fun out of it for me, and all that was left was “haha fuck you” hard fights or pathetically easy fights. so im hoping to jump onto dd2 at launch and get into it

The thing about Dragma, and this could be seen as "a flaw" is that it takes a while to get good. Or rather, it gets better the further in you get as it becomes a Monster Hunter RPG kind of situation. So you might find it growing on you over time. The best stuff is in the endgame and then the bester stuff is in the Dark Arisen content
