  • Profile banners use a weird aspect ratio, but @TallanCat made a template.
  • Cohost will not recompress your images. This does mean you have to compress them yourselves, but crucially, the image will look exactly as you uploaded it. I do not have particular suggestions of free compression tools, but as long as you avoid crunchy jpeg compression you'll probably end up with something better looking than other sites' automatic compression.
  • The image/audio size cap is 5MB for regular users, and 10MB for cohost plus subscribers. Except right now it appears to be 500kB for everyone due to server issues. Resolved
  • Specifically regarding icons, if it's too big consider lowering the resolution. On our 1080p monitor icons are never rendered at above 144x144 pixels.
  • Animated GIFs can be used as profile pictures. GIFs downscale poorly, so may become more difficult to read at lower resolutions. (i.e. in notifications or comments)
  • Icons also support transparency.
  • Put a \ before >:3 at the start of a line to stop markdown rendering it as ":3".
  • Press the ? on the post composer for a good intro to markdown and a some easy and useful HTML.
