always satisfying. ah the player's reaction in the vid is so good.
for me the problem was sometimes i'd get it in my head that i wanted to land it and the rest of my game would suffer as i fished for it.
i dearly wanted to main Ivy in SC1 but always found her moveset kinda awkward and lacking flow. and good lord Summon Suffering, her mega throw, has one of the most annoying damn inputs.
ultimately i had the most fun with Voldo and Yoshi. name a more iconic duo
edit: i'm curious how the fgc regards SC1 now. is it like Tekken where the early entries are just seen as too basic and slow? or is it getting more play, perhaps, because it's now well supported in Fightcade? it is, to date, the only SC i've played a lot.
I genuinely think Ivy is the worst character from a quality-of-life standpoint in SC1, so you don't need to feel bad about not gelling with her. I've been playing her just to try and make sense of what she has, but she's honestly just several hitboxes shy of a decent poking character. It's easy to see how she ended up being top tier in SC2—they were compensating for the way she was in this game.
I still think most people in the FGC (myself included) regard SC2 as the high point of the series for tournament-stable play. SC1 being on fightcade means that more people are playing it, but the truth is the number of people on there with legacy experience is almost none, because there was almost 0 tournament scene for it when it existed (relatively speaking to later entries, at least.) I'm among them—everything I know has pretty much been learned or labbed on the fly since it got added to Fightcade, haha.
I like SC1 for what it is and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what it accomplished at the time, but I have this gut feeling once we get PS1 emulation and I get access to the 3D fighters that really gnaw at my brain it'll be hard to return to SC1 outside of the occasional romp. My issues with it are largely just that there's a -lot- of hitbox squickiness that really gets to me, and the balance decisions are... well, it's a bit hypocritical of me to complain about balance, SC is never balanced, haha. But my main is considerably better in 2. ;)
And if PS2 gets added? I don't know if I'd ever go back, because that would mean access to /him/, my true husband, SC2 Berzerker.
All that said, though, playing SC1 has made me really appreciate a step-G less calibur that still had that early frame data concept of good, safe pressure for everyone, so it keeps me coming back just for that alone.
