More quietly revolutionary PC bangers from 1994. That transitional year was surprisingly formative. Hammer of the Gods might not sound familiar, but its strategy design certainly will.

At the behest of the gods, you embark on a quest of world domination, while recruiting new unit types on the way. Hmm... A hierarchy of deities will give you quests to complete, until you've served Odin himself, as the game centers on Norse mythology. Soon after its hushed release, publisher New World Publishing would strike gold by using this formula once more, in a little game called Heroes of Might and Magic.

Hammer of the Gods was only brought out of licensing rights hell a few years ago and is currently on sale on GOG or through the developer's own website that is still online!
