They made a live action show based off of a spin-off manga, based on a really good anime... Or something. Look, Odd taxi covered a lot of ground, so them going "that story again, but as a live action show or something" was pretty much inevitable. And it works!
Of course it works. Yeah, it obviously doesn't have the same immediate visual gimmick and appeal as the anime and whatnot, but Odd Taxi is already a fairly grounded mystery/comedy drama thing. And they basically already wrote in an explanation that allows for all these adaptions to work fairly easily, you just have to watch the thing and find out (or make an obvious guess).
It also helps to have good and consitinent writing, most likely thanks in some way to Kazuya Konomoto writing on everything across the franchise to some degree. And not to mention solid the acting and casting on display here. I'd argue that it's a pretty solid production all around really. (Except maybe some of the scenes in the dark, but I guess that's modern film and TV all across the board for you).
The story is pretty good, it following different characters means and should work well for both new people and existing fans, so you can probably have fun watching things in whatever order. They do it well, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well they pull off the whole thing. And right now I'm feeling pretty good about it.
