Black, andLikes Comics and junk.

  • Right off the bat, you have to confront the fact that this game not only had a tight budget, strange creative choices, and the fact that they also were targeting mobile phones.
  • It's really, really, not gonna be for everyone. Especially folks who prefer extremely high quality, very immersive, big budget stuff. You're gonna get filtered immediately.
  • But I kinda get it. Why not expedite and speedrun this intro and get to the weird/fun stuff. You've got several other characters with their own stories crammed in here. And also that budget. Fuck it. We ball.
  • We're doing this now? We're over here now? I think I needed more time and more information, but damn, if whatever thing you're dealing with at the moment isn't kinda charming. (Aughhh. That budget though.
  • It's kind of a chicken and egg scenario. Are you like this because of the budget, or because you don't feel like you need to do more than this and that to make something compelling, or at least neat?
  • The combat is pretty fun once you get to it and spend some time with it. Optimal inventory and menu management takes getting used to, but the battles themselves seem decent, straightforward, and fun enough right now. It's a solid part of the game, arguably the most solid pillar it has.
  • This demo has the Australian singing android lady. Aaaaand now she's a tiny amnesiac robot searching for purpose. Adorable.
  • Ok, we're suddenly exploring the universe (multiverse?) with a supporting party of goofy, yet charming characters. Obviously not to be confused with the actual pickable leads, obviously. Most of these folks seem to only occasionally matter to the story. Okay, I guess. They're neat enough though.
  • I'll be pleasantly surprised if these side characters matter much at all outside the battles.
  • The music is pretty alright.

Uhhhh that's it really. If you told me "The other entries are way better", I'd believe you. But I'm surprisingly fine with this. I guess I'll finish this demo soon and probably check out the main game since I'm pretty curious about the other campaigns.

At the end of the day, I'm glad we still get this variety from Square Enix. I sure do wish the budget or something was higher though. Oh well, you gotta enjoy what you can get while you can.
