be honest with yourself
Continuing from the last few years, I've been working on staying honest to drawing things I like, that mean something to me or speak to me. Something I learned is that I tend to judge ideas I have too harshly, and abandon them before they have time to blossom into art.
Part of being honest with yourself as a creator is not stopping yourself from making something you care about just because you're initially afraid an idea won't work, or even that it's ridiculous. Every time I've had this fear and quieted it, I've ended up creating a piece that really speaks to someone.
moving forward
This year I worked mainly on improving the sense of place in my art, and pushed myself with a lot of large-scale pieces. My lighting and composition improved as a result. I'd like to continue improving them in 2023 and beyond!
