I keep thinking about this vid. Well, obviously more about America's Greatest Otaku, the subject of it. And specifically about the guy who won that weird competition thing. Despite the obvious messiness that surrounded and permeated the whole concept, the winning guy got picked because he best embodied what the folks involved believed was the most important Otaku trait: Community. Having a really impressive collection, great cosplay, or knowledge is great, but yeah, they're right. Community is important.
And I think that's gonna stick with me for a long ass while. Especially in this current era, what with social media, covid, "post" covid, economics, the list goes on... There are complications, you get what I'm saying. But yeah, whenever I think about nerd culture problems or whatever, I think of this whole thing.
