the Puyo Puyo Manju revival continues: the new matcha flavour has launched at various in-store venues over the last couple days, and will be available online from tomorrow:
I wrote about this on twxttxr as it was happening but I guess I didn't touch on it here, so here's the basic story behind this strangely-popular snack, which goes beyond "thing in the shape of another thing":
the latest Puyo Puyo Manju has formally been announced: custard cream, out February 4. Back in the Puyoman days, these were sold as "Carbuncle Manju" in the shape of Carbuncle and were the main secondary flavour, but I guess they didn't turn up those specific molds, or there were trademark issues, or they just didn't want to commit to the extra gimmick... they initially announced these as a limited-time/seasonal thing but I don't see any mention of that on the store page, so maybe their plans fell through, iunno. (EDIT: it's limited in the sense that in-store distribution's limited to Hiroshima, it seems.)
The block finals for the big prefectural Puyo Puyo eSports circuit kicked off today, and Umetsubo's debuted the next Puyo Puyo Manju flavour at the venue: chocolate! I'd wondered if the demand for these things might've tapered off by now but they're still going strong.
