The Stage 1 music which is basically a remix of original R-type's stage 1 is probably the grimiest (positive) and crunchiest (positive) I've heard the SNES do.
The whole start of that game is fantastic, from the title screen to that high speed warp where you pick your Force bit and that Mode 7 zoom out from the ship's core to that stage 1 theme :eggbug-chefkiss:
