I love retro gaming, including hardware that allows me to keep retro gaming on modern displays (I don't love the price tag but it is what it is). However, following folks that do this work or cover it like Mike Chi (retrotink) or RetroRGB is like an invitation to see the stupidest, pettiest squabbles by insecure people on twitter. It's fucking embarrassing. There's like "factions" or clubs where if you offend 1 of them, the whole faction jumps on you. I haven't interacted with these people this way, but seeing shit like this makes me really not want to support or use these services.
Voultar is a prime example of always trying to start shit on twitter and then pretending he's the bigger man. What's sad is that Voultar made a post about how he's always labeled a "jock" because he's a down south country boy that rides motorcycles but he has a passion of technology, including soldering and electrical engineering. Yet at the same time it's ok to label the people with anime profile pics as hentai masturbating sonic fan fic writing losers. I've used Voultar's videos in the past to help me solder projects, I've got one of his boards in one of my consoles. But this shitty "retro club" superiority is fucking tired and embarrassing. He's not the only one. RetroRGB, PixelFX, Terraonion, MiSTerAddons, and many more. Now the people they are being "called out" by are also guilty of the same shit. Both "sides" are guilty of this garbage that it makes it really hard to want be a part of any retro enthusiast community.
There is so much more to all of us than just our hobbies and business ventures. There's no reason to be so reductive, label people willy nilly, and get into childish spats on twitter. I don't even know what this above tweet is even in reference to but seeing it has put a damper on the start of my day. I hope we could all learn how to be more constructive, more open, better at answering concerns, better at letting new folks in, and better at teaching how to love one another in this community. Also you don't have to "pick a team". There's so much console war energy in the retro hd scaler space, like be happy there is competition, both with feature sets and pricing. You can still be angry about Chinese thiefs stealing protected designs though.
