Hey cohost, just wanted to write a little self indulgent thing on how my 2022 went as a streamer/pngtuber/3Dvtuber. It was a wonderful year featuring many transformations, deep dives, interesting themes, and Lupin. Lots of Lupin.
So we started the year off with the first ever Saturn Roulette, a feature where I spin a big ol wheel of Saturn games I have access to and play em. That same stream was also the introduction of my modern pngtuber designed and made by Candalpop. It was also the introduction of Stadler onto the stream who would later become a mainstay offering his golf expertise to whatever I'm streaming at the time.
One of my favorite arcs I went through was my sniper arc, where we played both NES Golgo games (plus the unreleased Secret Ties game that is sorta Golgo related) and then culminated with playthroughs of the bonkers Simple 1500 The Sniper & Simple 2000 The Sniper 2.
2022 was the year of the Tiger and what better way to embody that than by taking a look at a smattering of Tiger Handhelds emulated on MAME, as well as the whole catalog of the Tiger game.com.
We also introduced a few more Japanese PCs to the Dream Harrier, including the PC-88 (Shout-out to Super Mario Bros Special), the return of the X68K, & the MSX1/2 getting its own month feat. playthroughs of 2 Lupin games, Silviana, Penguin Adventure, and Maze of Galious (also Psycho World later in the year)
Between MSX March & AniMay, we tackled a huge majority of games based on Lupin the 3rd. From the MSX we went to the Famicom, Super Famicom, and ended with the US PS2 game "Treasure of the Sorcerer King". (Also the original arcade game briefly showed up during Arcade April)
AniMay also saw us tackle games based on Kishin Douji Zenki, Dr. Slump, & Mobile Suit Gundam.
2022 was also Kirby's 30th Anniversary and saw the release of Kirby's first fully 3d adventure, Forgotten Land. While I didn't go through everything (and we played the gb games last year), we did do playthroughs of Adventure, 64, Forgotten Land, Dreamland 3 Co-op, Planet Robobot, and Kirby's Halloween Adventure. I also got to guest on Izve Mashina's Kirby 30th Celebration to play Return to Dreamland in co-op. What a year to be a Kirby fan.
MSX March did leave a hole inside me though. See I played Silviana which kinda had bump combat (though its more like Hydlide) and I had a very good time with it. But I had never played an Ys game, outside of briefly touching Oath in Felghana when that was popular. So I set off to right that wrong, playing Ys I & II via the Ys Chronicles+ on Steam, and then Ys III on Genesis via friend of the channel Plombo's Ys III Renewal patch
Finally my big project for the year was a deep dive into a series I find really charming. Namco's Valkyrie (Walküre). Starting with the Famicom original "Valkyrie no Bouken", moving onto the impressive and straight forward arcade action of "Valkyrie no Densetsu", arriving to the Super NES with the sidekick's sidescroller "Xandra no Daibouken", returning back to Namco's PS1 collections (We looked at them back in 2021), and then finally wrapping up on Android phones with "Glory of Valkyrie". We still have a Japanese only visual novel to tackle and I've got my plamo to build, but this is probably my favorite thing I've done this year.
You might of noticed a change regarding the last Valkyrie video. That's right, I became a full low-poly 3D Vtuber thanks to Henry Lutece. I debuted it as part of my birthday celebrations this year. On top of debuting the 3D model, I also played some Virtual Hydlide again, mashed buttons with Izve, and became Amiga Amigos with mooware.
What an amazing year we had together, made a lot of new friends, watched lots of new streamers, played an incredible amount of games, started this cohost which is pretty fun, and became a full-fledged vtuber. Some projects for next year include deep dives into Namco's Druaga & Dragon Buster, Lost Planet Trilogy (1, 2, EX), more Falcom, Kamen Rider games, & of course more N64, DOS, CD-i, 3DO, Amiga, C64, PC-Engine, PC-98, etc etc.
Some other highlights include...
- Bulk Slash getting an English dub
- Finishing Bomberman 64 grabbing all cards and fighting the true final boss
- Showcase of Artdink's PS1 catalog feat. Mr. Domino, Aquanauts Holiday, & Kaze no Notam
- An Eggcellent Easter feat. PS1 Egg games
- Firefighter Appreciation Week feat. The Firemen, F.D.18, & Burning Rangers
- Spooktober '22 feat. Gegege no Kitaro, Porky Pig, Overblood, R?MJ, Doctor Hauzer, & Escape from Bug Island
- Extra Life 2022 as always
