The sun smiles at you with eternal malice

Whenever I bring up Cruelty Squad, there will inevitably be someone who points out that it's ugly looking.

This is really confusing to me because I mean. I understand voicing your opinion, and wanting to and all, but also it's like. I dunno.
I think this is one of those things where you're wanting the game to be something that it is not, and the author has made it clear, by what he deliberately made, that this is what it is only going to be.

So idk. Do a funny mod of the game that beautifies the game for you I guess.

It's so confusing to me because it's so clearly on-purpose that it's like. Hey maybe this is part of the message, and Im confused by the complaint. I dunno. Maybe it's part of the caricature to get the point across and it would lose something if it wasn't a confusing hellscape.

You know. Like Eli Valley's artwork. He is depicting people in their actual image, not their literal image.

For me, the alien look of the game made me engage with it more. It's so fucking disturbing that it made me slow down and take it in more. It's so god damn insane looking that I accept it for what it is, instead of a hyper-realistic simulation art that would... whenever a video gamey thing happened... take me out of the experience.

I think some people use the game's style as a way to frame their barrier-for-entry. But usually with folks I've talked to it's more because they get confused from the visuals or some say it's because they dont want to risk seizures. That I understand! Sometimes folks just want something more visually appealing to their tastes during their off-time from work etc.

I personally think it's fucking rad and unique and love it to bits.

see the visuals are extremely cool from the outside but they are absolutely "so eye-strain that i do not think i could play it myself," in the same way i can't consume horror media even if i can understand deeply that something like hereditary is a tour de force of cinema and really, really needs every touch of horror it has
