Ordered another book that'll take way too long for my dumbass to finish reading:
"All the Shah's Men". Second Edition. I dunno. Im not an academic lol.
I find this stuff interesting
There are some academic-level problems with this book, according to a few scholarly-level reviews, that have issues with its levels of direct citation to named Iranians.
But, Kinzer's track record is good enough, and if anything his track record reflects pro-western compliance, which is interesting since he is mostly anti-intervention (against using the military to invade on a 'moral pretense', since US intervention hasn't been remotely moral since WW2...
..and even that was dubious when examined, especially the rewards given to the ""ex""Nazis after the Nuremberg trials).
It'll probably end up falling in the realm of reading something like "Killing Hope" where the tone of the writing is meant to be easier to read and its text is accepted as strong, and more than an introduction.
Akin to reading "People's History of the USA" (Zinn) and it being not enough to actually stand on its own. It's way better if you've already had a public USA history education to compare it back to, and realize what was being excluded and/or over-summarized.
