The sun smiles at you with eternal malice

Ok I keep seeing this take raised by Big Streamers that it isnt a ban, it's a very redditor debate brain. Misleading interpretation.

TikTok is being "asked" to give up control on the American market. One of the options allows them to do a one-time-sale while giving up control, what is a bad deal. A scam.
There's no business reason for them to want to sell, so dummies get to claim they left "voluntarily."
It's a ban.

The main reasons the TikTok ban exists is 1: American spy agencies want to expand their censorship/information controls on all foreign media. (This isn't talked about at all in pop culture coverage of this) 2: due to facebook lobbying. (also ignored)

Lastly, the courts are primarily conservative in America, especially its Supreme Court, which will probably cite national security as an emergency reason to define that foreign speech is not free speech.

in reply to @Snao's post:

They said right up in front of the Senate that they want to ban tiktok because "pro-Palestine content has 10x the reach of pro-Israel content on social media". It's 100% about obscuring the truth

Absolutely correct, although why most people are fine with it is because tiktok refuses to moderate the content posted (plus the recent huge increase in ads). It might be in fact be impossible to moderate it due to the sheer volume of videos posted every second.

Yah, and nobody would accept an internet where this level of moderation would be required.
That level of moderation is the approach that anti-porn religious groups take.
They don't want to outright censor porn, what they want to do is make it impossible to moderate with extreme standards.
