Ok I keep seeing this take raised by Big Streamers that it isnt a ban, it's a very redditor debate brain. Misleading interpretation.
TikTok is being "asked" to give up control on the American market. One of the options allows them to do a one-time-sale while giving up control, what is a bad deal. A scam.
There's no business reason for them to want to sell, so dummies get to claim they left "voluntarily."
It's a ban.
The main reasons the TikTok ban exists is 1: American spy agencies want to expand their censorship/information controls on all foreign media. (This isn't talked about at all in pop culture coverage of this) 2: due to facebook lobbying. (also ignored)
Lastly, the courts are primarily conservative in America, especially its Supreme Court, which will probably cite national security as an emergency reason to define that foreign speech is not free speech.
