It's hard to articulate to younger audiences just how impactful Psygnosis has been to video games. On PC, the publisher had a unique horror experience with Ecstatica. While the 1994 game has its troubled controls and awkward camera angles, it did offer something never before seen. The entire game is mostly built by ellipsoids, rather than triangular polygons, as it was technologically more feasible at the time. This spherical approach allowed for a more elaborate world, full of creepy crawlies that are trying to kill you. And it was mostly done by one person!
The game's second revolutionary act was this unbelievably badass box art; just top shelf stuff:
This game is an absolute fucking trip, and one that I recommend everyone experience, via actual play or watching a playthrough, at least once. As a bonus, this game lets you pick the gender of the protagonist, a rarity outside of RPGs (and, well, survival horror!) in the early 90s.
