I remember playing the demo of this on a demo disc as a kid. The demo disc was setup so that each game was its own room on a 3D space station, and some of the games were even hidden IIRC.

The fact that I liked walking around the space station more than playing this game should tell you everything you need to know about it. I was super pissed about that, because I remember being thrilled upon loading this up and seeing the fully animated intro with voice acting.

Interestingly, 7th Level's Arcade America was also on that demo disc, and I remember enjoying it much more even though it's roughly the same quality.

While Gex is undoubtedly the killer app for the 3DO, PO'ed is a close second! As a bonus, this version doesn't suffer from the awful texture warping of the Playstation port, at the cost of running worse overall IIRC.

  1. Having played through the entirety of this game a few years ago, it is indeed pretty good! Calling it "Doom Jr" is bit of a misnomer, as it's more like Wolf 3D with an inventory system, but the sequel, Chill Manor, is a full on Heretic/Hexen clone.

  2. Unfortunately unable to verify this, as my life has not improved in any appreciable way after completing I. M. Meen.
