Well, it’s finally time to fully delve into my weird names thing that I do! It’s like plurality, But Different Kinda. Different enough that I generally say I’m not plural. Anyways here’s how it works!
I like lots of different aesthetics, and I have multiple different moods and ways of being. Different ways of expressing myself that I’d like to explore. So, I’ve come up with these different “names” for myself, that look (slightly) different from each other. Some of them act differently, or, I guess, “put on different acts”. Doesn’t mean I’m “faking” it or whatever, they’re just fun things to explore. I have fun with it!
I say it’s “not plurality” because I have a lot of exposure to plurality and I think it’s important for people who know me to know how little this aligns with those experiences. For example, the names aren’t separate entities, they don’t communicate with each other, they don’t have separate goals for my life, they don’t have very different preferences (my favorite color, for instance, is always green, regardless of what name I have at the time. Even the color-themed ones don’t have different “favorite” colors, just colors that are more fitting to their aesthetic. The favorite, my favorite, is always green, and I’m always me), etc etc etc. The names aren’t different people. They’re one person (that’s me!) with multiple names and ways of being. I’m just the one guy. Hell, I don’t even really care about people using the “wrong” name for me at any given time, since I’m all of them!
I don’t think I invented this, and there are probably existing labels for things like it (“median system” is one I’ve heard before). To be honest, I… don’t really care. Maybe I should? But I’m also perfectly fine just calling it My Weird Names Thing.
Anyways with all that boring nerd shit outta the way I’ll get to the fun part: listing and briefly describing every single one!
- [legal name]: The original, the basic boi. I like this one! I’ve avoided using it on cohost for now, though. Maybe that’ll change at some point idk.
- Gem: A lovely witch.
- Key: Silly and vaguely mysterious. One of my most commonly used names.
- Scarf: My love of being comfy. RGB-colored, and definitely not a werewolf.
- Butterscotch: A sweetie, just like her namesake!
- Persimmon: One word: “brat”.
- Rain: A hilariously well-endowed crybaby.
- Xenon: Originally suppose to be “the purple one”, and then I found out the element xenon doesn’t actually glow purple. I swear I had a really good reason for thinking it did.
- Lápiz: The Spanish word for “pencil”. You can call this one “Lapis” as a nickname, too. Embodies my love of writing.
- Soda: Like a CMY version of Scarf. “Comfy” is taken more in the direction of “tasty” here, if that makes any sense. Definitely not a wereslime.
- Autumn: Autumn-colored! Maybe Scarflike? Idk!
- Cozy: Definitely Scarflike, but dommier, bustier, and… slightly pudgier, too. The pillow is where you’re supposed to rest your head so you can sleep.
- Rhodochrosite: Or “Rhodo”, for short. Hot-headed and very fashionable.
- Magnolia: The maid. Cleaning is kinda fun sometimes!
- Neo: The scientist. Has a lab, brews potions.
- Whisper: The “magic” to Neo’s “science”. A ghost-type, but (probably?) not a ghost. Frequently spouts cryptic bullshit.
- Spades: An intermediate state between [legal name] and Key. Surprised I don’t use this one more often tbh.
- Beryl: Not originally a witchy name, but I’ve since repurposed this one into the main character of several microfictia you can find here on cohost. That’s right, she was a self-insert all along! I might’ve said that outright at some point, actually. Don’t remember.
- Sunset: The ultimate dommy name.
- Midnight: The part of me that thinks that every day should be Halloween. People should be able to wear their cute costumes all the time…! Also, another witch. This was much less weird back when Beryl wasn’t also a witch.
- Vanilla: The librarian. Keeps things nice and orderly.
- Lyra: Embodies my love of music. I’m particularly happy with how the drawing of this one turned out!
- Acacia: A wood elf. I am not sure what all this entails aside from cute ears and a slightly different skin tone. I’ve been Acacia exactly once and I don’t remember what it’s like.
- Fern: Loves to take care of plants, but is not a plant herself. No, seriously! The vine on her arm is a tattoo! This is completely different from Scarf’s “definitely not a werewolf” thing!
- Crystal: A winter spirit. Once again I’m not sure what this entails, so, boom, cute ears! Though I didn’t have that much affinity towards ice, it just so happens that ice is the first type of magic I learned, and therefore the kind I’m most proficient in by far. Perhaps this name embodies that fact?
- Val: The villainess. Commits many evil deeds and dastardly schemes and whatnot. Sometimes struggles to come up with these plans, since she doesn’t wanna, like, hurt anyone, that’d be fucked up.
- Lock: Every Key needs one, right? Anyways for some reason this name is absurdly subby and easy to fluster, even compared to, like, most of the other ones.
- Nectar: Ditzy and silly and a little indulgent.
- Leonie: Not originally a jester, but she had the red and blue colors and a fairly silly attitude, so I decided, hey, jesters are cute, now Leonie is one!
- Dezi: A clown. There had to be a clown, so as to prevent Clown Key from existing, and keep the world safe from the existence of such a thing (note: Clown Key is still an entirely plausible thing to occur. Nobody is safe). The name is kinda just syllables I smooshed together while I was Dezi. It sounds name-ish, and also sounds like “design” (my favorite word), “dizzy” (a very fitting word here), and “dice” (which ended up being the theming of this name’s outfit! Her hair is tied by a pair of fuzzy dice like you’d see in a car).
- Thalia: Because of the thing with Xenon, I needed a new purple name. Thalia is purple, and also star/space-themed, and also angelic! Her wings look kinda like an End Portal, like you can see a starry sky through them.
- Selene: A lunar name. Iridescent, rainbow-y hair.
- Charlotte: The princess! What she is a princess of is entirely unclear.
- Weave: Spidery seamstress. Tailors outfits, names, costumes, masks, and the like out of her own silk. The three pairs of smaller “eyes” are tattoos, but they can still blink…
- Seasalt: A pirate! She might not know anything about operating a ship, so she isn’t exactly captain material, but she can swing a cutlass around!
- Bromine: A primarily masc-leaning name, since almost all of the others are either more gender neutral or femme-leaning. Very handsome and red and a little bit of purple. The element itself is poisonous, but I don’t know if that factors into this name, or if so, to what extent. Like all of my names, this one can probably pull off whatever gender just fine.
- Alloy: Not really a human. Extremely malleable form that gravitates towards being a chimera, monster, and/or fictional creature. The closest I get to being therian.
- Snow: Loves the concept of “bundling up”. Warm, soft clothes are the best, and Snow wants everyone to recognize this and partake! Or just, generally dress appropriately for the weather, if it’s something other than cold out. That’s less exciting, though…
- Honeycomb: I love mechanical things and gears and other gizmos, so I turned that into this name! Honeycomb’s a mechanic, and while she is not a bee, she’s got very bee-themed clothing, including her lovely yellow jacket (pun very much intended, though I think those are wasps and not bees?) with antennae on the hood.
- Bitwise: A robot. Other names can be robots too, but it’s Bitwise’s specialty. Might occasionally be inclined to act more like a robot, too, when other names are less so.
I accrued the majority of these in almost a year! Anyways, which design/drawing is your favorite? Which ones do you want to know more about? I love talking about this stuff! Because “this stuff” is, uh, myself :P
