WATER.So, we've been having severe rainfall nearly every week for the past 3-ish weeks. This has resulted in costly floods ripping though infrastructure and causing the usual damage.

This location is rarely seen this serene, as I found out later that night. In 1923, some guys though it would be a good idea to create a dam to supply our town with a reliable water source. As far as I can tell, not a single person in the past 101 years thought it was a good idea to keep consistent maintenance on a 940ft/286.5m dam. Basically, the thing is full of 100-year-old trees now, all of which have become the dam.

It's roughly a 35ft/11m drop from the start of the spillway to the end.For 100 years, the spillway has slowly been eroding the landscape, creating a large chasm which produces a string of large temporary waterfalls.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Dam Safety Program did a routine inspection on the dam, declared it was unsatisfactory, and the city has since done minimal work to fit it.

Water under moonlight.I arrived a little later than expected, I had originally planned to use my polarizer as a makeshift ND, but it had already gotten too dark.

The moon! and a bunch of satellites.ISO 2500 - ƒ1.7 - 15sec
Some nice dream-like atmosphere to capture. This is probably one of the more dangerous photo shoots I've done. Walking around cliffs in the dark, walking thought high current water, slippery rocks, and a dam which has the potential to collapse according to the State of Texas.
Probably still not as dangerous as driving home past midnight without a phone.

Zooming out.I haven't done sky watching for at least 6 years, which is depressing considering I now live in a place with good skies. There was concerning amount of satellites, much more than I remember 6 years ago. Nearly every other photo had one in it.
I use Starlink to make these post, the alternatives are cost prohibitive or don't exist yet. I can definitely see the reasons to be against it, but I'm a total hypocrite.

There were a lot of fireflies, this is the only image that caught them.ISO 2500 - ƒ1.7 - 15sec
A final relaxing shot.Anyway, I made my way back to my car and quickly found out the area closes at sundown. Two police cars we're eagerly waiting for me and, given my history of pointless police encounters, I was prepared for the worst.
Turned out they had waited a full hour for me to show up instead of, y'know, looking for me. Great job! Oh yeah, they also told me they were ready to tow the car instead of searching for the owner, again, great job guys! At least I wasn't nearly tasered like last time. If I was injured or missing, guess I'm not worth it according to the cops!
Welp, successful night I guess?
