Have you seen the small number of Lenovo Yogas that charged via a modified USB-A port? Lenovo is a bottomless well of ideas; with a huge range of goodness. (See: Yoga 3 Pro)
Apparently the port in question could be used as another usb port when the power cable wasn't plugged in and I can't believe I'm saying this but thank God for usb-c

What the hell did Lenovo gain from this? They had to buy tooling to manufacture an insane custom USB socket and plug, rather than buy commodity parts. They saved "putting in a basic barrel jack plug" which there is no way a Yoga really needed to save space on that badly.
Oh!! I have a laptop that has this port! It’s fun that when not being used to charge the laptop, it functions as a completely normal USB port. I guess the upshot of it was that it allowed the laptop to be super thin, but fuck knows why they did it that way.
The laptop also features the utterly bizarre Micro-HDMI port on the same side, which I have never in my life bothered to get an adapter for.
I keep loading this post every hour or so to make myself angry
