personally it drives me mad that if someone shares my post, it strips the tags off, even if they don't add their own. I Put Them There For You. but i never used tumblr

tags not being inherited from a re-cohosted post seems more like an oversight than an intentional design choice.
I undersfand because u would need to hav some sort of specifier saying these are "original poster tags" ant thaf might be either too busy/complicated or too confusing. (like if u just colored them different colors or smthn)
Like unsure whaf the UI solution would be, it needs to be subtle enough to not disrupt Teh Reading of Chosts but also bee visually distinct enough not to confuse people about which is which.
not an official statement necessarily, but we've tested various options for the UX here extensively and everything has been too unclear (and decidedly worse than the current state as a result) to ship. this isn't something we're hard-and-fast decided on Not Changing, but we haven't figured out anything that works in even the majority of cases.
you mention tumblr and yeah our sharing system / tag system is very obviously pulled from tumblr more than twitter/mastodon/whatever, so the original implementation was an intentional decision based on how tumblr handles things. obviously "this is how tumblr does it" does not inherently make something a Good Decision (i personally like it but i am also not last-word on product decisions) but "we made a product decision in the past" doesn't mean we won't ever change our mind, just that if we do it needs to be thought out.
as of now, making OP's tags visible all the time changes the implied contract of what content is visible at any given time (specifically making previously invisible content suddenly visible), so we need to be extra cautious with what we do here.
perhaps an "age of posting"-style solution would help; i'm guessing that's only implemented for post content.
as for UX and indicating added tags, what if tags added by people sharing posts were indicated with "+" instead of "#"? it'd fit well with the fact that they function differently
If I rebug a post without additional comments, I try to add new unique tags that would help it be found
I do wish there was additive tags tho
also, it seems like searches resurface each individual instance of a post with tags instead of treating all reposts of the same post as the same one?
