More specifically, what's the etiquette around hotlinking1, how do I disable antialiasing across all browsers2, and are there any other things I should consider when adding them?


  1. I see some people providing HTML to add their button to other sites, often hotlinking the image, sometimes base64 encoding it. I could also just host 'em by putting them in a folder, of course. What's better/more polite/easier?

  2. 2018-era answers to this question seem to suggest using both image-rendering: pixelated; and image-rendering: -moz-crisp-edges; in the CSS for the images, but are both necessary/is this still the best way to do it?

There's some situations where hotlinking can upset the browser too (I think if your website is on HTTPS but the hotlinked image is HTTP is a particular case that browsers dislike) so even if someone provides an HTML block including a hotlinked image I'll generall still rehost.
