Yooo, new map jam just dropped, two months duration, and the focus this time around is simply exploring around a space, no combat, but puzzles or storytelling are encouraged. Thanks go out to @erysdren for the heads-up <3
Get the game
If for some reason you don't have a copy of Quake, it's available on Steam and elsewhere for pretty cheap:
Or you can acquire it through other means. I mean, it's 25+ years old now, I ain't gonna snitch. ^.V.^
Watch some tutes
Also, if this is you first time creating a map for Quake, you'll be relieved to know it's really easy to get into thanks to a free program called TrenchBroom. Here's a big playlist of tutorials that cover every aspect of Quake mapping:
Look for custom stuff
You can use default Quake textures, but custom textures are also allowed. If you want some good ones, just search for Quake textures made by someone called "Makkon"; that bastard has way too much talent for one person, lmao.
Why Quake mapping is good for you
I heartily encourage participation in this jam. I believe game modding is good for the soul, and making Quake maps is perhaps one of the most simple ways to ease into being a creator rather than a passive consumer. Even if there's no intention to be some big game mapper, it's still nice to have a thing you can point to and say, "I made that," even if it's just a few rooms connected together by poorly-aligned textured hallways.
