Epic is axing the Unreal Marketplace, Quixel Megascans, Sketchfab, and the ArtStation Marketplace to replace them with "Fab," an engine-independent asset store. (This seems like an odd decision to me, but it's not the main point of the post)

If you claim any Megascans once Fab launches, you keep them for free forever, regardless of where you plan to use them!

Fab launches sometime mid-October, and all Megascans content will be free until the end of the year, even if you're using Unity/Godot/Blender/etc.

Claim as many as you can! (Hopefully someone makes a script to claim them all or something, haha)

Unreal users will no longer have unlimited access to Megascans after 2024.

For the past 5 years, if you were an Unreal user, you could use all the Megascans you wanted for free without a subscription, but that'll be going away at the end of the year. If you don't claim them during this period, your free access to Megascans will be cut off.

Scrolling through my unity asset store library, and wow, nearly every sound effect pack I've purchased through bundles has been removed from the store, presumably for copyright infringement.

Like, I knew the sidearm studios ones got taken down due to the PSA/callout video Filmcow made, but they're all gone, haha

It's nice to see that unity's cracking down on them, as I'd prefer to not have to deal with the headache of dealing with the repercussions of that... but it would be really nice if unity actually labeled them in a way that made it clear why they've been taken down. Labeling them "deprecated" doesn't really communicate "if you continue to use this in your project you are likely putting yourself at risk." If I hadn't seen filmcow's video, I may have assumed they all just decided to quit using the asset store or something. I doubt Unity/Humble are going to be issuing refunds though, and I definitely feel for the people who got scammed when buying 'em outside of the bundles....

Edit: It looks like I was wrong to praise Unity here, the scammers likely voluntarily shut down their accounts after getting caught. Cafofo in particular nuked all their accounts, after two of their packs were found to have other people's sounds in 'em
