i can't go to hell - i'm all out of vacation days. i watch space rocks and yell at computers for my day job. probably too old for any of this

i think i might be burned out on internet social. it's hard to keep doing it. it's hard to even maintain the amount of attention i'm already giving it

i am the cause of most of my own problems

i think it's an interesting subjective difference in how we perceive things that people will talk about video essays or podcasts or audiobooks as "good background noise for working," while if i so much as put on any music with lyrics in it, my focus will be disrupted because my brain will automatically and involuntarily shift to laser focusing on actively parsing those sounds for language as a foreground task that pre-empts all others

anyway, as a tangent, i cannot relate to any of these "most raw lyrics" coposts because i mostly just avoid lyrical music1

  1. there are exceptions but theyre rare, and why they're exceptions is, so far, not particularly quantifiable2

  2. but frequent exposure does seem to make backgrounding easier - so basically anything that got radio play in the 90s or store music (esp suuuuuper reptitive things like xmas) can be tuned out

I do the same thing. I can't have TV on in the background when I'm trying to sleep either because any words become Priority 1 for my brain and sleeping becomes a so-distant-as-to-not-exist 2nd task

soooo agree

love slapping a random mtg draft VOD to have some sort of auditory stimulation and then just Not Pay Attention to it

but any song with lyrics just pulls me right out of it

i like songs with lyrics when i'm not working though, lol

there isnt a hard and fast rule, but languages i don't understand are generally better about this

(another factor seems to be how much the vocals stand out from the instrumentals vs how much they... integrate(?) with them but the trade space has very fuzzy edges)
