i can't go to hell - i'm all out of vacation days. i watch space rocks and yell at computers for my day job. probably too old for any of this

i think i might be burned out on internet social. it's hard to keep doing it. it's hard to even maintain the amount of attention i'm already giving it

i am the cause of most of my own problems

furthermore, capitalism must be destroyed

I got that new wireless replica Neo Geo CD pad last night and I decided to play Crossed Swords 2 to break it in, and I couldn't have picked a better game for it.

I never played either Crossed Swords game but I had heard it was an attempt to bring RPG style gameplay to the arcade, but what I didn't expect was how great the game felt to control. Moving the joystick nub around felt less like moving a character to where you need them to be, but more like really well-done motion controls, where the button functions don't matter so long as they can provide verisimilitude of action in the game.

Your attacks in game can be modified by moving in a particular direction when using them, while also allowing for minute adjustments to your position, making combat feel less like an RPG and more like a game of Punch-Out!! with a continuous series of opponents per level. Elemental modifiers can be purchased and leveled up in game, and special attacks are executed in ways which feel natural for what you're trying to do. For example, you can execute a rapid-fire combo of slashing your knife back and forth by wiggling the joystick left and right rapidly while hammering the attack button. It's all so seamless that when you're done playing, you struggle to explain the minutia of how it all works, because... well, it just works.

I definitely think this game would lose a lot of its magic without a joystick/analog stick, given how much it relies on wide, sweeping inputs, but if you have a good way to play with an arcade stick or NGCD-style clicky pad, I HIGHLY recommend this one.

Also you can fight a giant rat mech, and that's cool as hell
