i can't go to hell - i'm all out of vacation days. i watch space rocks and yell at computers for my day job. probably too old for any of this

i think i might be burned out on internet social. it's hard to keep doing it. it's hard to even maintain the amount of attention i'm already giving it

i am the cause of most of my own problems

furthermore, capitalism must be destroyed

So I generally don't talk about work too much on these things because I don't really have any desire for work life to cross over with online life. Broadly speaking, though, I work in IT & development for a small research group that specializes in meteors.

Anyway last night, a (very small) asteroid fell a little over 100km from us. In astronomical terms that's practically right on top of our head.

What's interesting is this was detected by observatories a couple hours before it arrived, so we knew it was coming and roughly where it would land. It's also interesting that the object was so small (I'm hearing roughly 0.65m), because as far as I'm aware, detection of an object that small in space before it enters the atmosphere is rare, if unprecedented.

There's likely a significant amount of material on the ground that may be recovered, and it landed near a populated area.

It's funny that this is the second noteworthy object to land near Grimsby - the last was back in 2009 and struck someone's car, breaking the windshield.
