The return of Linux adventures.

It's been a while since I posted one of these. Mainly because it's been mostly uneventful, which was a good thing. Though the configurations were just slowly falling apart more gradually to where I couldn't even put the computer in sleep mode because for some reason it would never manage to find the monitors when trying to wake it up. Then some other configuration fell apart completely somehow related to the keyboard which also resulted in half of the installed programs just not launching, or maybe that was just a couple unrelated problems at the same time?

Long story short, I ended up having to clean install a newer version of Linux Mint since I had put off an upgrade for a while and the system wasn't able to upgrade directly. However, since I'd figured out prior that having the root system and home directories on separate partitions would make upgrading easier, even if I did have to wipe the system directory like I did given all the corrupted configurations, essentially all I have to do is reinstall whatever programs I was using and they've generally kept their settings.

I haven't reinstalled the proprietary graphics drivers yet since last time that opened up a whole new set of issues like the whole not being able to exit sleep mode correctly thing and also a v-sync issue that I did manage to fix before, so I was going to test the default generic drivers and see how those hold up before committing to another mess. I also have to make sure that if I do set up the system restore thing again, to not have it take up the entire drive like it was somehow doing, possibly because of how for some reason the updates would keep insisting I redownload every single graphics driver including the ones I wasn't using. I still have a lot to figure out on this sort of machine.

I also ended up going with Cinnamon instead of the other thing because I was thinking something was broken with the windowing system which was causing programs to not load. So far I do have complaints of things generally being different, mainly I can't seem to figure out how to get the favorite programs category to show up as a page instead of a single column that has to be scrolled infinitely. So I have to keep directly searching for every program individually.
