also:

  • It's neat.
  • The screen sure is bright (I got an OLED).
  • The vent briefly hissed like some kind of cat snake during the initial updates.
  • It smells like electronics.
  • I'm glad I picked up a Bluetooth keyboard earlier for certain desktop stuff. I didn't look up the shortcut for the on-screen keyboard in desktop until just now.
  • OpenMW runs pretty well.
  • I still need to run some offline testing once I've gotten things installed.

I won't be jumping on getting a Steam Deck OLED (or LCD) right away if I do decide to get one (and maybe they'll do another Game Awards giveaway I probably won't win), but I was already looking up how to get OpenMW installed on there and fortunately it seems pretty easy, especially if you just have a copy of Morrowind already installed through Steam on there, and I happen to have a copy from when Bethesda got rid of their launcher because I apparently had that on there. If that didn't work I do still have my old CDs to work with. But a thing I hear about the OLED screen in particular is regarding the "premium" matte finish on the highest end of Steam Deck potentially reducing the HDR-ness of it. But then again, given it's a touch screen, the matte finish seems like it has more appeal for that consideration in terms of not showing fingerprints like what would be everywhere else on the system. I swear whenever I use my phone I'm just habitually wiping the screen off on something right before I shove it in my pocket.
