Co-op board game based on Alien, alright I can see it. Very clearly note that this game is titled ALIEN not ALIENS no space marines here. Kane just got chest burstered, everyone starts in the same room, there's a xenomorph running around that wants to kill everyone. Everyone needs to work together and complete missions before everyone dies or the ship blows up. Yeah, alright, standard co-op game stuff.
Except... No one dies. For a board game based on a movie where people got picked off one by one no one in this game gets picked off. If you meet the alien then Crew Morale goes down and you're forced to flee before it gets you... Because it was a movie where people got to run from the alien a lot. You don't even DIE as a crew it's "Mission Failure" because the collective crew morale hit zero.
Because xenomorphs have never killed anyone those people just took critical emotional damage and then their bodies just Did That.
The game just puzzles me because I get what they're doing. In the abstract all of it works and I see what the mechanics are doing.
But they very specifically tied it to Alien and what they're doing is just not Alien.
Anyway it was on extreme markdown clearance and I had gift cards so sure, whatever. It just had to be remotely playable and it's provided me exactly enough enjoyment for the price point. They did knock it out of the park in making Cat Jumpscares a thing with the game.
