no other studio would have the lead writer come out and say "yeah you know the main character of fallout 4? he's actually this guy laughing at a war crime in the fallout 1 intro! same person! follow for more epic gamer easter eggs!"

and then four hours later go "oh people aren't clapping at the reference. they are in fact calling him a war criminal. don't worry i'm now deciding it's not canon actually."

he's now whining about how people didn't see the follow up tweet about how not everything he says is canon as if the issue is default fallout 4 man being that specific soldier and not that he, the main bethesda writer, didn't get that the soldier in the fallout 1 cutscene is meant to be an absurdly evil caricature

I sincerely hope that Bethesda never changes and doesn't go bankrupt before I'm done creating, because their simple existence is so damn good for my self-confidence as a writer and designer

My memory is fuzzy but if I remember that scene from the intro correctly it's outstanding that the lead writer thought the first clarification helped here

Also it's insane to imply a continuity between a nameless faceless solider in the background of a game you didn't write and a player avatar whose only bit of background is "was in the military at some point". Genuinely a Game Theory Sans is Ness level of thought and effort. What does this add? Other than showcasing the difference between the original team's and Bethesda's portrayal of the prewar US military.
