iPod: refurbished. Becoming an iPod girl. Like one of those weirdos in the 2000s who still used cassette players for all their music. I'm leaning into the eccentricity.

Also glad I still have the .ipg archive for Song Summoner I bought way back in the day. Apparently no one's ever cracked this one yet? So the only way to play it is if you bought it back when iPod games were still on the store, and you still have your copy.

Transferring it was pretty easy too, just had to drag and drop the file onto the iPod in iTunes.

Oh hell, I completely forgot / never knew that there were third-party iPod games, and now I badly want to see how Pole Position Remix plays with the clickwheel. (From what I can glean from contemporary reviews: poorly. But that doesn't stop me from wanting to try it myself.)

Pre-iOS iPod game DRM cracking sounds like it'd be a fun skill to develop at some point.

Honestly getting the iPod open was the hardest part. If you want to avoid scratching the case, it takes some work. Now that I know how to do it I can actually do it pretty fast though.

How cool! Judging by what you say, i guess many games from that era of the Apple story are probably lost by now, so please take good care of that file!

I had never heard about Song Summoner, but it reminded me about one of my favorite mobile games from the Symbian times: Ancient Empires II. I guess it was pretty popular, because i'm pleasantly surprised by finding that it's still avaliable to play! So thanks for making me rediscover it.

From what I can tell from a quick search, it looks like most of them have been backed up, but the copy protection has only been cracked for maybe ~30% of the games. I wonder what the process even is?

Ancient Empires II

Oh cool! I don't know this one, but it looks like fun.
