eggbug enjoyers,

as we were putting the finishing touches on artist alley yesterday, we ran into a critical bug that was causing some users to experience very rapid flickering and flashing when navigating the alley.1 the fix for this requires a full rewrite of a section of the code and we need another day to get it done. artist alley lands on monday!

thanks for using cohost

  1. while we expect that any launch will have some bugs, we can't ship the alley with a bug like this. especially one that could be harmful.

in reply to @staff's post:

  • maybe it shouldn't say "last @staff post" then, because it isn't.
  • maybe you should update the artist alley announcement post that's still in the cohost corner to note that it's been delayed. because it still says april 19, and there's no hint that there's an update, because the update wasn't posted anywhere anyone actually sees it.

Considering how many times I've seen questions in #cohost meta that are answered by staff posts that aren't in Cohost Corner, I really think it'd be a good idea for almost all staff posts to go in there. A lot of users seem to be under the impression that Cohost Corner IS showing the latest staff post at all times.

for anyone joining later, at some point in the last hour they updated the product announcement (and the still-current "cohost corner" post) to add a note saying that it was delayed until the 22nd.

this has irked me for so long. a vast majority of the time, it's never actually the latest staff post, despite saying that's what it should be. this is incredibly misleading, and i almost feel like this may give unaware users a bad image, since it kinda looks like you guys dont communicate nearly as often as you actually do.

if you want to highlight a staff post, that's totally fine, but you guys really need a better way to display that. in fact, i'd say you should just have both a highlighted post and the latest staff post visible in the cohost corner somehow.

It’s so nice to see you all actually testing launches of new sections of the site and taking accessibility concerns seriously enough to delay a launch rather than release it with a seizure trigger warning or something (side-eyeing a certain Automattic brand)

Nothing recently that I’m aware of. Just in the past they’ve allowed ads up without any warning or delay before the flashing lights start. On mobile they’d sometimes take up your whole screen and be difficult to scroll past.
