I’ve been playing Oblivion on my deck for the last few weeks. I decided to keep mods to a minimum and try to get a decently vanilla experience.
I more-or-less blasted through it as a teen with a whole array of apocalyptic spells, an armory of swords from Bleach and Berserk (which I hadn’t actually read at the time), and an amulet that gave me invincibility/invisibility/and detected all life in eighty miles. I did eventually do a quick run through the main quest before Skyrim’s release that was less extreme, but still rather modded.
But this time, I decided to just get the Unofficial patches, a handful of quality of life improvements, and some mods for controller support.
And I’m surprised by how much this game rules. It’s low commitment in the best way, some of the misc quests are fun, and the game still looks great. It really feels perfect for the Steam Deck, once you get the controller support mods working.
It’s nice to play while I’m waiting for some Baldur’s Gate 3 patches, and while my creative project becomes more creatively demanding. (The screenshots are from my deck in docked mode, so they might not look that great.)
