Tonight finished watching X-Bomber/Star Fleet, a very obscure puppet sci-fi series that plays as kind of a mash-up between Star Wars and Thunderbirds by way of Go Nagai (who came up with most of the characters and setting). Slow moving and pretty basic alien-invaders story, but there were a couple of strong individual episodes in there and the ending is a massive payoff.
(A man in a suit fights a puppet, and the puppet sets him on fire.)
Something you watch purely for its visual style and effects work, all of which is gorgeous: there was recently an art exhibition of the series' production materials in Japan!
