Title: カラーレスガール Colorless Girl
Creator: 白野ほなみ Shirono Honami
Books: 3 volumes, Jul '18 - Sep '21, Houbunsha Comics
A josei series about gender dysphoria, clothing and art school, from the same creator as I Want to be a Wall. MangaPlaza have an English release.
The protagonist is Murata Aoi, an arts college student studying textiles. For Aoi, going to college and living alone was an opportunity to start presenting as a woman. According to flashbacks to middle school, before that transition Aoi had felt like wanting to disappear. In the epilogue of the series Aoi has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, but mostly the story is set before that, where Aoi has instinctively transitioned to living as a woman at the first opportunity, without knowing yet whether she identifies as a man or a woman.
From the way it includes details to inform readers about what art school is like, I guess the mangaka went to one. For Aoi, it's a good experience that helps her find herself and grow in confidence, and she finds her studies rewarding. A big part of the theme is what things like clothing and hair can mean to the characters, and what Aoi is studying links to her getting to exercise more control over what she wears, which is key for her reducing her dysphoria.
Another important thing for Aoi is her good friends Rikako and Megu. I think the character writing is a strength of this series and in particular it portrays the charisma of Rikako well. Although Aoi is the main character, the series also has chapters that spotlight other people and depict their experience from their perspectives, including Rikako.
