A josei series about a 35 year old straight man trying to restart his love life after being single for 10 years. It had a live action series recently, but I've not watched it (I rarely watch any TV shows).
Mukai's confidence was dented by his break up with last girlfriend. When he told her he wanted to protect her, she responded to this cliche by asking him what that was even supposed to mean, protect her from what? Ten years of not dating are also making him apprehensive.
A big feature of the story is that multiple times things don't work out for him with a woman he found attractive, and it's often very embarrassing and disappointing for him. But he's not a calamity. His awareness that he hadn't understood what his ex wanted makes him humble and open to thinking about how he relates to women, trying to learn from rejection.
There's also a plot line about Mukai's sister being conflicted about her marriage. Mukai's aim is to find someone to marry, but the series doesn't want to treat marriage like it's the be all and end all.
