Posting about some of the manga I read. I read manga in Japanese.

Honest to god magical girl shoujo manga seems to be a fossilized genre.

Nakayoshi has still been doing things like PreCure adaptations, and revivals of Card Captor Sakura (Clear Card is right about to finish), Tokyo Mew Mew and Mermaid Melody. But these are decades old properties.

Ciao recently had a short lived series called Futari wa S x S about 2 girls who could use telekinesis while holding hands. A bit more SF than magic.

Ribon had Acro Trip, and it's getting an anime next year, but that's a spoof about a fan of the magical girl helping the villain.

There's a ton of magical girl themed seinen and shounen manga that spoof or subvert the genre with varying degrees of edginess and sexualization. Maybe that's part of why it lost its vitality as a shoujo genre.

Admittedly there's a lot of shoujo manga currently about girls who can use magic in the form of adaptations of seijo or akuyaku reijou isekai web novels, but that feels rather distinct from the magical girl genre, even if things like Magic Knight Rayearth kind of link them.
