The royal family maintain the seal at the cost of bearing the dragon's curse. The protagonist is a teenage girl found as a baby in a forest and raised by an old woodsman. She's a fan of the dragon and a friend to wild creatures. A reckless attack by some poachers enrages her, with dire consequences.
