I just tested this mug with a kit from detectlead.com

Hi? I'm a furry who likes making games.
Oh what a surprise! The furry likes computers! Maybe I'll post some devlogs here at some point, but I have to make something I can show first!
I just tested this mug with a kit from detectlead.com
is this a joke??? like... im so poisoned by the internet i can't tell anymore??
probably not ! lead contamination is a real issue
This is not a joke. I’ve been waiting for this lead test kit to get here for almost a month. Just tested and threw away a bunch of stuff that has it.
...oh god i've been using an old one from ThinkGeek to hold my toothbrushes for years
It may not be terribly bad, as long as it hasn’t broken, but I would throw it away and switch to a plastic toothbrush holder.
the lead doesn't come out unprompted, unless you put sth acidic in there it's probably safe
like say tea and coffee, repeatedly, also for years, until the finish started coming off and made stuff taste funny, at which point i figured it'd be okay to just use it as a toothbrush holder instead... 😓
but is it official valve merch or a cheap knockoff?
also... detectlead.com looks like they are just selling uv lamps and flourescent liquids... last time i saw a lead test it was a strip that would turn bright orange to indicate lead... just saying this looks fishy to me appears to sell something that might be a leadtest that i have never seen before, still seems a bit fishy to me but thats how it is with new things

This is official merch. This is a new kind of test that I've seen the people behind double check with professional equipment.
and here’s the product listing from when valve sold it: https://web.archive.org/web/20110831191909/http://store.valvesoftware.com/product.php?i=MU200
that's an oof. but thank you for checking, a friend also has that exact mug :(, gonna get it tested i bet
Oh, that's a nice-looking mug~ Guess I've got some dumpster diving to do!~ (I'm kidding I'm kidding)
