No surprise, it's pretty great. I fully played through the first world/stage set (all unlocks and collectables), and it's the Mario game and mechanics you're accustomed to, but feels like more of an evolution of the 2D series than just the same 'ole thing with newish levels, especially when compared to the 'New' Super Mario games. I've read a couple reviews that said it is more like a true sequel to Mario World, and I can already see what they mean.
This is probably a fantastic game for parents with young children that may be new to videogames. You can play 1-4 players locally, but you can play normally while your kid can use an invincible character while learning, and getting acclimated to its controls and systems. It seems very well implemented.
It's charming, surprising, and so far, a lot of fun. Its not groundbreaking, or changing much of the basic formula we've known for the last 35 years, but it's a nice minor evolution to a series that some may have gotten tired of.
2023 seems to be the absolute best, and at some points, the worst of what video games have evolved into. Too bad some of the bad--layoffs and general greed of publishers, for example--may overshadow how amazing it has been.
Good job Nintendo, now get back to work on Odyssey 2 for the NG Switch 👍

Nice! I read the Eurogamer review and it sounds pretty great! I absolutely suck at platformers so m not really in the market for this game, but I’m interested to see what creative things they do - sounds like there’re lots of interesting ideas here :)
